RISK TOOLS FOR SAFETY

Basically there are several tools can be used in findings hazard and risk.
Below is commonly used tools.

1. Job Safety Analysis - JSA
2. Hazard Operability Study - HAZOP
3. Hazard Analysis - HAZAN
4. Fault Tree Analysis - FTA
5. Hazard Identifiations Risk Assessment Risk Control - HIRARC

1. Job Safety Analysis.

Introduction.

Generally, JSA is the easiest way to identify hazards and to determine the best way to reduce the hazard. In the other word, walk the walk of the specified job. It's easy when walk through method is used.

Performing JSA
There are five simple steps to perform this tools.

1st Step
Select any job to analyze.

2nd Step
List down basic job steps.

3rd Step
Identify Hazards in each step.

4th Step
Control each Hazards.

5th Step
Review the JSA.

2. Hazard Operability Study - HAZOP

Introduction.
A Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) study is a structured and systematic examination of a planned or existing process or operation in order to identify and evaluate problems that may represent risks to personnel or equipment, or prevent efficient operation. The HAZOP technique was initially developed to analyze chemical process systems, but has later been extended to other types of systems and also to complex operations and to software systems. A HAZOP is a qualitative technique based on guide-words and is carried out by a multi-disciplinary team (HAZOP team) during a set of meetings.

There are three basic types of causes. They are:
1 . Human error which are acts of omission or commission by an operator, designer,
constructor or other person creating a hazard that could possibly result in a release of hazardous or flammable material.

2. Equipment failure in which a mechanical, structural or operating failure results in the release of hazardous or flammable material.

3. External Events in which items outside the unit being reviewed affect the operation of the unit to the extent that the release of hazardous or flammable material is possible.
External events include upsets on adjacent units affecting the safe operation of the unit or node) being studied, loss of utilities, and exposure from weather and seismic
activity.

METHOD

1. Standard Guide Words used in identifying Deviations, the Study Leader applies (systematically, in order)

2. Overview of commonly used guide words and parameter

3. HAZOP basically carried out by a set of team.
